A couple of days ago I went to this professional chef store and bought some toys for professionals, including a fancy blade contraption that chops, slices, dices, and juliennes. I mean fancy professional stuff, yo!

And I have the shredded fingers to prove it.


Anyway, if chemical reactions were on LJ, the Maillard reaction would so totally be on my friends list.

Anyanyway I’m still feeling a bit off so my hunger doesn’t do me much good. Nietzsche can go stick his love of disease somewhere dark and quiet.

Your contraption, as you describe it, seems to be what's properly termed a mandolin -- though as I'm not much of an etymology sleuth, I'm sure I don't know why!

Please do get used to using it with whatever guard feature may come with it or you can improvise. Fingers are one of life's most valuable accoutrements and deserve protection and respect. Trust me (and Lincoln Duncan, per Paul Simon) that they come in endlessly handy; you'll want them to last and last!
